A Tale of Two Screens.

Tonight I took my beautiful daughter out on a father daughter date 💕. 5 years old, her Father’s joy 😊

After going to see Peter Rabbit 2 (with popcorn 🍿 in hand!) we sat down for a baby-chino ☕️ and some chocolate moose 🍨 at a local restaurant.

As we nestled into our seats I took a moment to observe our surroundings 👀. What I saw deeply impacted me, hence this tale.

I looked up to see a table of young men, many still in their work gear, having their dinner 🍽 and a few beers 🍻 .

I thought not much of it until I looked behind them. Behind them up on a wall were two giant TV screens 📺.

On one screen A Current Affair was playing with Scott Morrison (ScoMo) being interviewed on the horrendous revelations of rape and abuse in Parliament and across our nation 😢 (though it has been going on for decades, it’s only now just making the front pages) 😡 .

On the other screen was playing one of the latest top 10 music videos. It featured two women ripping each other’s clothes off and kissing 💋 each other forcibly on a bed 🛏. One woman literally pushed the other down. No consent implied, in fact it was quite the opposite.

On one screen our Prime Minister was being grilled about the fruit of our nations moral decline, sexual abuse, and on the other screen was the very root, the very fuel for the fire we are now seeing burn and wondering how to put out. 🔥 🚿 ⁉️.

The irony and the tragedy of the scene before me had me sitting in a mixed state of rage 😤 and disbelief 😳. I had to keep asking my innocent five year old daughter to keep looking at me instead of the second screen. I watched as these young men were being taught by one screen that women are sexual objects to be sexually desired and consumed, while on another screen our Prime Minister was doing his best to speak of how to deal with such a crisis.

He was literally having his every word undermined by the images right next to him.

I thought to myself, we can’t have the solutions offered by Scomo on one screen without smashing the other 🔨 💥 . I also thought to myself that we will not smash the other until we confront something so much greater.

The devil hates humanity 👿 🤜🏽 👩 👨. He wants us to destroy each other and he starts by seeking to convince us that we are simply clumps of cells, evolved animals 🐒 . Yet we are so much more. Until we know our worth as created and loved human beings we will never truly treat each other as we should. The irony of this is that Scomo knows this to be true. The Bible he reads says to “love your neighbour as yourself” it also says that we are “Gods masterpiece created to do good works.”

Maybe it’s time we start smashing screens. Maybe it’s time we start valuing human beings ❤️. Maybe it’s time we deal with the root of this issue.

Sexual “ freedom”, pornographic consumption and production, embracing “anything goes”, the rejection of God and His value of us all, it all sends one message, humans are consummable and disposable 🗑.

We need to change the narrative.

For the sake of my daughter, for the sake of those young men, let’s have the real conversation and let’s ask Scomo the real question. What does your Bible 📖 say about our worth? The answer is in there.

Jesus shows us that we are all created with value and worth, we are all loved. God loved us so much that He sent His own son Jesus here 2000 years ago to lay His life down just to show us His great love. We can’t fix this mess on our own. We need Jesus. This is the truth and it will set us all free 💃🏻.

✌️ peace.

Andrew

  1. Good job cuz.
So devastatingly true in every way!

Now I need to lock in a couple more father son adventures minus the horrible worldly influences;)

  2. What a complex situation, yet not really if Jesus was the focus. Parenting is so hard at times, you are doing an amazing job Andrew.
